Carole Mikita Reporting With so much competition for tourist dollars, six cultural organizations and one hotel have joined forces to create the new Foothill Cultural District.
This new marketing campaign hopes these groups will attract more visitors.
Nearly 30 years ago, a group of arts patrons and philanthropists founded the Emigration Visitor's District, but the members of this new Foothill Cultural District say they are hoping for more than the 1.5-million visitors they had last year.
The groups are the Hogle Zoo, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, the Utah Museum of Natural History, Ft. Douglas Military Museum and the University Guest House, the This is the Place Heritage Park and Red Butte Garden.
Today's announcement at the Red Butte Garden unveiled the new street signs so tourists will know where to find them.
Sen. Karen Hale (D), District 7: "Most of the people in this district can easily find their way, but now many more people will be able to enjoy the wonderful offerings of this cultural district with these wonderful new signs."

The institutions that are represented here are led by extraordinary leaders who share my passion and my commitment for us being a central part of this community and making these resources available to everybody around the state."
They may be unique groups, but they plan to join forces for special exhibits and events.
This Saturday, December 9th, is 'Holiday Shopping Day." Every purchase will be discounted by 10%. New coupons offer a 2-for-1 admission discount through Jan. 2007, and the University Guest House has a 59 dollar a night rate through Jan. 4th.
