PROVO, Utah (AP) -- A Duchesne man is suing a gun company after his rifle exploded on a hunting trip in 2004.
Jesse Tatman is suing Savage Arms, the company that made the rifle for liability, breach of warranties and negligence. The Sports Authority, formerly known as Gart Sports, is also named in the lawsuit.
According to the lawsuit, Tatman bought the rifle in January of 2003. It says he used the gun during that year's hunting season and had no problems.
However, the lawsuit says during the hunting season in 2004, the rifle exploded, sending shrapnel into his face.
Company officials say all of their rifles are tested in the factory before they're shipped out to prevent incidents such as the explosion.
Tatman is suing the company for an undisclosed amount of money.
