OGDEN -- Ogden firefighters are investigating a suspicious blaze at a home near Grant Avenue and 28th Street. It's in the same general area as several other recent house fires.
Just before 9 a.m. Wednesday firefighters arrived on scene and found heavy smoke throughout the house and fire coming from the rear of the home.
The fire started in a back bedroom. Margaret McLaurin's aunt owns the home and was trying to evict the tenants.
Neighbor Mary Bennett saw people hanging around the property at the time of the fire.
Deputy Ogden Fire Chief Chad Tucker said they aren't ready to declare it an arson fire just yet. He said, "The fire marshal's office will investigate that information; however, just because somebody left the structure, doesn't mean it's an automatic arson."
The house suffered between $50,000 and $75,000 in damage.
Two other nearby houses caught fire last week. Both fires are considered suspicious. Both homes were abandoned.
On May 21, firefighters responded to a fire at 1893 Childs Ave. Early the next morning, they battled a fire at 3111 Jefferson Ave.
Fire officials have not said of any if these fires are connected.
