A dog that was once trained to fight to the death is now living a new life as a family pet.
Halle was one of 22 pit bulls taken in by Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab after Michael Vick's dog fighting ring was broken up. She's now with a foster family.
"She's living with another dog, and actually, to this point, doing terrific," spokesman John Polis said.
He says it's a slow process of re-education. "[The dogs were] totally devoid of socialization. They didn't know what toys were or treats are. They had to be totally brought back from scratch," he said.
Not all of the 22 dogs have had happy endings. One died during dental surgery recently. They were trying to fix her teeth, which had been filed down when she was a fighter.
A a NatGeo Channel series about DogTown, the Best Friends Dog Sanctuary, will roll out 10 new episodes in March.
