Three days to go before the Friday night Sugar Bowl between the University of Utah and Alabama. One student leaves for New Orleans this morning.

First he's going to check his map.

"I'm still not exactly sure if I'll go through Albuquerque or through Denver," he said.

Jonathan Bowen is a junior at the U. He's about to drive down to the Crescent City as the U's blogger in chief. But before the big game, there's a party.

"We're going to hit the French Quarter for New Year's Eve," he said.

He will report on the game and the town. This is his first visit. The Draper native knows it's not like home.

"I have not heard it described as the Salt Lake of the South. It's more of a sin city of the South," he said.
