Some experts say people can get ahead in this down economy if they are smart about it.
Nexeo branch Development Director Mark Thomas says businesses are like people. They are anxious, too, right now. He says ask yourself what your anxiety does for you.
"If it's a motivator, boy you can be really creative. If it's a paralyzer, then you just sit in your chair and think how can I keep my job?" he said.
He suggests going in with a business solution for that company.
"Why do you want to hire someone for this position? What caused this position being open? And then being creative enough to understand what that solution is. And if you are that person that can provide that solution, then you are worth money," he said.
Thomas was on KSL's Nightside Project. He says have some creative strategy and become an opportunist. Prove you deserve a raise and you just might get one.
