SARATOGA SPRINGS — A 13-year-old boy has died after a crash at the intersection of Pony Express Parkway and the Mountain View Corridor in Saratoga Springs on Thursday. A woman and another child were also hospitalized with injuries resulting from the collision.

Saratoga Springs spokesperson AnnEllise Harrison said just before 6 p.m., a semi tractor-trailer heading east on Pony Express Parkway and a minivan heading north on Mountain View Corridor collided.

A woman driving the minivan was flown to a hospital in critical condition, but was said to be recovering. Two children were also in that vehicle — the boy was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, but later died. A girl, around 10, was also hospitalized with less severe injuries, according to Harrison.

The incident has caused traffic impacts for people commuting through northwest Utah County.

Two other children were also in the minivan, a toddler and an 8-year-old, who were not injured and picked up by a relative.

The condition of the truck driver was not immediately made available.

As of 8:30 p.m., a Utah Department of Transportation camera showed traffic delays still visible at the intersection for eastbound traffic. Harrison said westbound lanes on Pony Express Parkway remained blocked for the time being, but other directions of traffic were being diverted.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
