LEAMINGTON, Millard County — Crews late Wednesday were working to gain containment on a large wildfire burning southwest of Leamington in Millard County.
The Wild Horse Fire sparked at around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Within hours, it doubled in size, growing to an estimated 1,000 acres, with 0% containment and is continuing to grow, according to Utah Fire Info.
Road closures remain in effect for Leamington Pass and Fool Creek Roads.
The fire was burning near power lines, so crews temporarily de-energized them for public and firefighter safety — as of 10 p.m., officials said the power has been restored.
Ten structures in the Fool Creek area that were threatened by the fire burning on state and public lands are no longer in danger, and no evacuations have been ordered.
More than a dozen fire agencies are assisting with the blaze — both on the ground and in the air.

A video posted on Utah Fire Info's social media page shows a huge plume of smoke near the mountain, with visible flames.
Officials said gusty winds and steep, rocky terrain are making conditions challenging for crews to get a good handle on the fire in some areas.
Firefighters will continue response efforts overnight, and more resources are expected to arrive on scene on Thursday to assist. Utah Fire Info said crews hope to make progress on containment on Thursday due to anticipated lower temperatures, higher humidity and minimal wind.
"These conditions should allow firefighters to make significant progress through direct attack along the fire perimeter," the agency said in a statement.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
