OGDEN — An inmate at the Weber County Jail died early Monday due to what officials called a "medical event."

No identifying information was provided by the Weber County Sheriff's Office about the inmate, but they say the person was found unresponsive during a security check about 4 a.m.

Emergency medical services were contacted, and the inmate was taken to a hospital, where he or she was later pronounced dead, the sheriff's office said in a press release.

"Initial investigation shows that the individual suffered from a medical event that was not self-Inflicted," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

The Weber County Attorney's Office is handling the death investigation.

"The Weber County Sheriff's Office extends condolences to the family of the deceased. We also thank all the staff members and first responders that diligently perform their duties and assist with difficult situations such as these," the sheriff's office said.
