LEVAN, Juab County — An unoccupied structure and outbuilding were destroyed by a wildfire that sparked Monday afternoon.
The fire, dubbed the River Ranch Fire, sparked in the Sevier River Estates area northwest of Yuba Reservoir Monday afternoon, quickly growing to 15 acres before it was contained, according Utah Fire Info, a mix of state and federal firefighting agencies.
It wasn't immediately clear what started the fire, but it comes as dry conditions continue to create concerns in the state.
The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center listed most of central and southern Utah as having elevated fire risk over the weekend, which is abnormal for March. Elevated fire risk was still in place across eastern Utah on Monday, before storms are forecast to return to the state later this week.
Record-setting warm and dry weather has worsened the state's drought this month, which typically also increases fire danger. Almost 70% of the state was listed in severe or extreme drought in the latest U.S. Drought Monitor report, including almost three-fourths of Juab County.
