COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — Firefighters responded to a large fire at a home nestled behind a green at the Willow Creek Country Club in Cottonwood Heights on Thursday.
Unified Fire Authority spokesman Benjamin Porter said both UFA and the Sandy Fire Department responded to the home at 2945 Robidoux Road about noon and discovered heavy smoke and flames. All occupants were out of the house, including a dog and a cat.
"The dog was fine, the cat was unresponsive. Our crews were able to administer oxygen and revive the cat," Porter said, adding that the cat has since been taken to a veterinary hospital.
Initially, the fire was too big to enter the home, so responders began attacking it from the outside. Porter said they were eventually able to make an entrance and clear "a portion" of the home, although there is still a portion that firefighters haven't been able to access yet.
"This is going to be a big incident for a while," Porter added.
Additionally, Porter said wildland units were dispatched to the area due to reports of the fire spreading to the grass around the house.
