OGDEN — A homeless man has been sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a runaway girl in Ogden.
Matthew Nicholas McCarty, 19, pleaded guilty earlier this month to aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, and 2nd District Judge Catherine Conklin on Tuesday sentenced him to six years to life imprisonment.
McCarty had originally been charged with rape of a child, a first-degree felony, but the charge was reduced and a second charge he faced, object rape of a child, was dismissed as part of a plea deal.
McCarty confessed to engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl last year, according to his plea agreement. When law enforcement authorities contacted the girl's father, the man relayed his concerns about his daughter's relationship with McCarty.
