WEST BOUNTIFUL — Two small planes that took off in Utah had to make separate emergency landings Sunday, but the passengers of both were safe.
One of the planes took off from Wendover at 5:58 p.m. to go to the salt flats to see the sunset. The two-seat, single-engine plane made a maneuver that caused it to lose thrust and nose dive into the salt flats and hit the ground about seven miles north of Wendover, said Tooele County Sheriff Paul Wimmer.
The plane skidded 50 to 70 feet.
Wimmer said the two occupants, both adult males, suffered no injuries and were able to walk away from the incident without assistance. The plane spilled a small amount of fuel.
In the other incident, a plane had an engine malfunction and landed on Legacy Parkway just north of 500 South in West Bountiful, said Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Jared Heywood.
The four people inside were not injured, Heywood said.
The right lane of Legacy Parkway was affected for about an hour.
