HEBER CITY — Hyatt Hotels Corporation plans to expand one of its luxury brands into Utah, opening its first mountain-themed hotel.

Andaz Heber Valley is slated to open in January 2029, Hyatt announced on Thursday. It'll feature 85 guest rooms within The Slope, a mixed-use development with 140 private villas and 62 condominiums that Angstrom Development Group is building in the area.

While Hyatt officials didn't disclose the hotel's planned location, the property is near the Provo River and Deer Valley's East Village and will serve visitors to the Wasatch Backcountry for its ski resorts and other outdoor activities, such as hiking and mountain biking. Once open, Utah will be the seventh state to have an Andaz hotel, a brand known for "local surroundings and infused with local culture."

The facility will feature "design and well-being from a global perspective over familiar alpine clichés," Hyatt officials said. They added that they seek to "emphasize local craftsmanship, materiality and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape" with the property's architecture and interiors.

"Heber Valley embodies the spirit of the American West in a perfectly understated way," said Amar Lalvani, president and creative director of Hyatt's Lifestyle Group, in a statement. "We look forward to sharing the first alpine Andaz hotel with guests from around the world as well as the local community,"

Hyatt launched its Andaz brand nearly two decades ago. Others are scattered near cityscapes, beaches and spa hot spots in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii and New York. That's in addition to several other locations worldwide.

It also aligns with The Slope's vision, said Neil Goldman, managing partner of Angstrom Development Group. The large-scale project seeks to offer dining, retail and outdoor elements for residents and travelers alike as it opens in phases over the next few years.

"Collaborating with Hyatt allows us to introduce a new kind of alpine hospitality to Heber Valley, one that is design-forward, wellness-driven and rooted in a strong sense of place," he said. "Andaz Heber Valley will bring a global perspective while honoring the character of this valley."

Its development comes as Deer Valley Resort continues its march closer to the Heber Valley, following a 2023 agreement with the Extell Development Company that will help double its skiable terrain and add many new residential units and hotel rooms. It opened seven new lifts this year as part of that expansion.
