EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A West Valley man who died in a fiery crash in Eagle Mountain on Wednesday has been identified by his family.
The crash between an SUV and a car happened around 3:40 p.m. near 6384 N. Eagle Mountain Blvd. and resulted in the car catching on fire. A sheriff's deputy was able to get the driver out of the burning car and tried to render aid, the Utah County Sheriff's Office said.
However, Xavier Saucedo, 18, later died from his injuries.
Saucedo had been visiting with his girlfriend, who lives in Eagle Mountain, earlier Wednesday prior to the crash.
"He had just dropped her off after a brunch date and was coming back home when it happened," said Jazlin Saucedo, the victim's sister.
The driver and a passenger who were in the SUV were also injured and were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not known.
Saucedo's family described him as a sweet, funny and loving young man. They said that though he could be shy at times, he also had a vibrant and outgoing side to him.
"He had a deep love for cars — especially his BMW, which meant everything to him. He loved to dance, party, and sing his heart out, and those joyful moments are how we will always remember him," the family said in a statement to KSL.
In light of the heartbreak and devastation to Xavier's family following his passing, they encourage others to exercise caution on the road, especially during inclement weather.
"One moment can change everything, and we hope his story reminds others to slow down and stay safe," the family said.
A GoFundMe campaign* was started by Jazlin Saucedo to help with costs related to laying her brother to rest.
"We love you and will miss you X!," the post says.
