WEST VALLEY CITY — A 22-year-old West Valley man was arrested early Tuesday and accused of firing a round into his neighbor's apartment.

Police were called to an apartment just after midnight and found the neighbor, who showed officers a hole in a bedroom wall. The hole was created by someone in the apartment to the west, according to a police booking affidavit.

Police then made contact with a 22-year-old neighbor.

"The suspect told me that he had recently purchased a .357 revolver and was dry firing it while sitting on his couch," the affidavit states.

That's when the man said he accidentally fired the gun, "shooting through the TV, two sheets of sheetrock, through a dresser, through two more sheets of sheetrock, entering into the neighbor's apartment, then hitting the ceiling of the master bedroom of the neighbor's apartment," the arrest report says.

No injuries were reported.

The man was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of reckless endangerment and public intoxication.
