COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A small-plane crashed in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Sunday, killing one person and critically injuring another.

At 5:21 p.m., the small plane crashed in the Albion Basin area. One person died, and one was flown in critical condition to University Hospital, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Hannah Gorski.

The Alta marshal, Unified Fire Authority, and Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office responded. The Federal Aviation Administration will arrive Monday to investigate the crash.

Officials asked the public to avoid the area while they investigate.

The Albion Basin campground is closed for the season on Monday.

Additional details were not immediately available.
