SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police officers shot and killed an aggressive dog after it attacked the officers on Thursday afternoon, according to the police department.

The officers were in the area of 1700 S. Main when they approached a group of pedestrians, Salt Lake Police Sgt. Miles Southworth said. The officers were not called to the scene.

Southworth did not know why the officers approached the pedestrians, but said they must have seen a violation of some kind.

The pedestrians had a dog with them that was aggressive and attacked the officers, Southworth said. The officers then shot and killed the dog.

No officers were injured, the sergeant said.
