SALT LAKE CITY — The SEC is coming to Utah for an exhibition baseball game.
Two-time national champions Vanderbilt baseball will travel to Utah on Oct. 10 to take part in an exhibition contest against the University of Utah. The game will be played in South Jordan at The Ballpark at America First Square, the home of the Salt Lake Bees.
The exhibition will be free to the public.
Vanderbilt comes to Utah after an early exit in this year's Nashville Regional of the NCAA Tournament following a 43-18 record. The Commodores, though, last won a national championship in 2019 and are considered one of the blue bloods of the sport, churning out MLB talent on a yearly basis.
They'll matchup against a Utah team who finished the year with a losing record (21-29) and missed out on the Big 12 Tournament.
The Utes, though, improved their roster in the offseason through the transfer portal, including the additions of standout San Diego State infielders Nevan Noonan (Sr.) and Daniel Arambula (So.), as well as Cal State Dominguez Hills transfer pitcher Justin Abercrombie.
Utah also welcomes some in-state talent to the roster with Salt Lake Community College transfer Luke Jacobs (OF), Utah State Eastern transfer Landon Salvesen (LHP), and freshmen Cal Miller (INF, Viewmont HS).
The Utes will soon complete the construction of its new baseball stadium, the Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark, which will be housed on campus on Guardsman Way.
The new facility, which costs an estimated $35 million, will feature a turf field and seating for 1,200 fans (and additional capacity up to 3,000), as well as indoor practice facilities for the team.
