OGDEN — A fire early Sunday caused an estimated $1.6 million in damage to a townhome under construction in Ogden, fire officials said.

Fire crews responded around 12:37 a.m. to reports of a structure fire in near 400 West and 12th Street. When firefighters arrived, they found flames and smoke coming from the roof of the unoccupied building, according to a statement from the Ogden Fire Department.

Crews acted quickly to contain the fire, applying water within minutes of arrival. Their efforts prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings.

A total of 23 firefighters from Ogden Fire Department and Weber Fire District responded to the scene. No injuries were reported. The Ogden Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

"We commend the professionalism and teamwork displayed by all responding personnel," said Ogden Fire Chief Michael Slater. "Their actions helped protect the exposed structures."
