SALT LAKE CITY — Drivers on I-80 in Parleys Canyon experienced heavy delays Thursday evening after a semitruck jackknifed, blocking all but one westbound lane.

The semitruck was the only vehicle involved in the incident, which happened about 4:30 p.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cam Roden. The truck driver, who was not identified, sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Two right lanes of westbound I-80 were closed for hours as emergency responders attended to the driver, then investigated and cleaned up the scene of the crash. Roden said the semitruck was also leaking oil and fuel, which contributed to the reason it took so long to clear the roadway.

Utah Department of Transportation cameras showed westbound traffic backed up for miles. All lanes were reopened shortly before 8 p.m.

Information on what caused the semitruck to jackknife was not immediately available.
