HOLLADAY — A broken water line caused a rockslide and mudslide in Holladay Tuesday night, affecting three homes, leaving one of them severely damaged.

About 8 p.m., a water main line broke on a hillside located near 3091 E. Silver Hawk Drive, said Unified fire spokesman Kelly Bird. Initially, the address the fire department reported was 3100 South, but it later updated it.

The water main break saturated the hillside, causing the mudslide that entered the basement of one home and severely damaging it.

The exteriors of two houses, located just east of I-215 near 5800 South, were also impacted by the slides. All of the occupants of the three homes were evacuated to safety.

City workers had been called to close the line and begin repairs as there will be a major cleanup needed for the area.

Correction: In an earlier version, Unified fire spokesman Kelly Bird was misidentified as a spokeswoman.
