If you've driven past a billboard about Utah's electric future or seen headlines about wireless charging roads, chances are those innovations trace back to one place: ASPIRE at Utah State University.

This week, Utahns have a rare chance to step inside that future.

On Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the ASPIRE Engineering Research Center will open its doors to the public at its Electric Vehicle & Roadway (EVR) Facility in North Logan. The free, family-friendly event will offer an up-close look at some of the world's most advanced electrified transportation technologies — most of them developed right here in Cache Valley.

Why it matters for Utah

ASPIRE isn't just another research center — it's the nation's only NSF-funded Engineering Research Center dedicated to wireless charging, smart grid integration, and the real-world rollout of electrified transportation.

Headquartered at Utah State University, ASPIRE is at the center of Utah's statewide push toward intelligent, clean, and connected mobility. In fact, the center is leading the development of a 30-year electrification roadmap for the state, coordinating efforts between government, business and community partners.

"This work isn't about theory — it's about deploying practical, scalable solutions that benefit everyday Utahns," says Anca Matcovschi, ASPIRE's chief communications & marketing officer. "We're talking about cleaner air, lower long-term transportation costs, and a more resilient energy future."

Behind the buzzwords: Real technology you can see

While terms like "smart grid" and "in-motion charging" might sound futuristic, ASPIRE's team is turning those concepts into reality — and they're inviting Utahns to come see it for themselves.

Imagine roads that charge electric vehicles while you drive. Trucks that plug into 1MW wireless chargers. Entire communities powered by intelligent infrastructure that reduces emissions and improves public health.

It's happening now — and it's happening in Utah.

Come see what the future looks like

Whether you're an EV enthusiast, a STEM-loving parent, or simply curious about where Utah is headed, the ASPIRE Open House is a chance to experience groundbreaking innovations in action.
