REXBURG – Two suspects in a 2021 home invasion murder will not be facing the death penalty after being indicted by a grand jury.
Anthony Dean "T.J." Wilson, 33, and Ryler Jensen, 28, are charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Investigators say they worked with Pierre Lake, 21, in conspiring to kill Ralph Brian at his home on the 300 block of North 12th West in Rexburg. Brian's wife, Karen, was stabbed multiple times but survived.
Pierre Lake, the key suspect in the case, was arrested the day after the attack in September 2021. He pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced in January 2024 to serve 30 years to life in prison.
In May, Wilson was also indicted for a separate alleged crime, an alleged murder plot to kill the Teton County sheriff and a Teton County magistrate judge.
Wilson and Jensen pleaded not guilty to all charges during their district court arraignments on Thursday in front of District Judge Steven Boyce.
Madison County prosecutor Rob Wood also informed the court that he would not be seeking the death penalty in either case.
Both suspects are scheduled for their own weeklong jury trials. Wilson's is set for Nov. 17, and Ryler's is scheduled for Nov. 3.
If convicted, they could both face life in prison.
