KAYSVILLE — The Kaysville Police Department is grieving the loss of one of its own. Sgt. Jared Jensen, a beloved officer, husband and father, died Monday after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was 34 years old.
Jensen's journey began less than a year ago when he started experiencing severe headaches. By September, he was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer. Despite his determination and the department's hope for his recovery, he succumbed to the illness just months later.
"We're all grieving the loss of one of our own," said officer Noelia Wallace, visibly emotional. "It was a day that we all dreaded."
Jensen leaves behind his wife and two young children. His colleagues remember him not only as a dedicated officer but as a man who deeply loved his family and community.
"He's a fighter, very determined to get past this," said Kaysville Police Chief Solomon Oberg. "We were hopeful that we'd get him back. Up until about two weeks ago, he was still determined that he was going to come back and put this uniform back on."
Jensen's law enforcement career was marked by bravery. In 2012, while serving with the Sunset Police Department, he survived a terrifying incident when a gunman fired eight rounds into his patrol car. Miraculously, he walked away unharmed.
"It was definitely life-changing," Jensen once recalled. "Bullets came through the driver's side, across my body, and out the passenger side."
Despite surviving that near-death experience, cancer proved to be a battle he could not win.
"His memory will live on forever," Wallace said.
Oberg, who hired Jensen six years ago, described him as someone you could always count on — an officer who loved serving others and made a lasting impact on the department and the community.
A funeral service for Sgt. Jensen is scheduled for this Saturday.
