KEARNS — A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a weekend shooting in Kearns that injured another teenager.
Saturday night, Unified police received report of shots fired near 6000 S. Cougar Lane. Police arrived on scene and found a 17-year-old boy had been shot.
The boy was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and as of Monday night, he remained hospitalized and was receiving critical care, Unified police said.
During a search of a residence connected to the shooting, police reported locating two handguns. Through interviews with witnesses, detectives identified a possible suspect and discovered the shooting was gang-related, police said in a statement Monday.
"Both the victim and the suspect are known to have possible gang affiliations," Unified police said.
Detectives believe the victim was driving in the area when he stopped in front of a residence, and a verbal confrontation occurred between him and another 17-year-old. At some point during the confrontation, he fired a gun at the other boy.
The 17-year-old suspected of shooting the other boy was located and taken into custody, Unified police said Monday. His identity was not released.
