OGDEN — Police conducted crosswalk enforcement operations at two locations Tuesday hoping to raise awareness amid an increase in auto-pedestrian crashes in the city.

Officers made numerous stops near 12th Street and Gramercy Avenue and near 33rd Street and Harrison Boulevard as drivers simply failed to yield.

Ogden Police Lt. Glen Buss said the city recorded 81 auto-pedestrian crashes in 2024 and 22 so far in 2025.

"Unfortunately, this year we are still trending up," Buss told KSL-TV.

Buss said the crosswalk enforcement operation at 12th Street featured a city worker who regularly crossed the road as officers watched for drivers who didn't yield properly.

"It's a very high-speed, heavily traveled road, so when crashes do happen, they tend to be more severe," Buss said.

Both operations were conducted near schools.

When a crossing guard was added into the mix at 12th Street, several cars still failed to stop.

"All too often, these are children being hit, so we want to make sure we are limiting that," Buss said. "It changes everyone's life when a child is hit."

If I never had to issue a citation because everyone was obeying the law, it would be a great day for me.

By stopping numerous cars, Buss hoped police would capture the attention of many more drivers and motivate them to pay attention and drive safely.

"We do want to do what we can here," Buss said. "If I never had to issue a citation because everyone was obeying the law, it would be a great day for me."
