SALT LAKE CITY — A woman on the sidewalk was killed after a collision a block north of Liberty Park on 700 East propelled a parked car off the road, according to Salt Lake police.
"Based on the preliminary information, the driver of a car north on 700 East lost control and hit a parked car. The impact then pushed the parked car into a woman walking on the sidewalk," police said.
Additionally, detectives believe the driver, a 57-year-old man, fell asleep and lost control of his car, according to a release from Salt Lake police.
The woman killed was identified Thursday as 46-year-old Lacee Kelly.
The crash happened before noon, and northbound lanes between 700 South and 800 South were closed by emergency personnel while the investigation was ongoing.
The driver of the initial car is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
