SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating a crash in Salt Lake City that sent one person to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened at 280 W. 1700 South. Police said about 6:20 p.m., a small SUV smashed into the back of a line of five cars at a stoplight, resulting in a chain-reaction crash.

A passenger of one of the vehicles waiting at the light was injured in the crash. Paramedics at the scene took that person to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police closed 1700 South between 200 and 300 West while responding to the accident.
