LAYTON — A fire south of Layton caused delays for public transportation and interstate traffic on Friday evening.

The southbound ramp to I-15 off Layton Parkway was closed for a time Friday afternoon while firefighters extinguished a blaze that started in a neighborhood near the freeway. Friday evening, crews were ensuring the fire was completely out and making sure it wouldn't reignite.

The fire started close to multiple homes and a jungle gym then quickly torched a grassy area behind the homes. Sparks from the blaze flew across the train tracks and ignited a second fire next to I-15.

The fire caused delays along the FrontRunner train between Roy and Orem, but as of 7:30 p.m., service had resumed, and the Utah Transit Authority said there may be residual 15 minute delays.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

The fire caused a power outage just after 3:30 p.m. that Rocky Mountain Power said affected 11,002 customers in Farmington and Layton. Power was restored by 6 p.m.
