Man accused of kidnapping, killing Kearns woman pleads guilty

SALT LAKE CITY — One of six people charged in the kidnapping and death of a 25-year-old Kearns woman pleaded guilty in court Friday.

Orlando Esiesa Tobar is the first to be convicted in the murder case of Conzuelo "Nicole" Solorio-Romero in 2021.

Solorio was forcibly taken from her home in Kearns at 5133 W. 5400 South at gunpoint or at knifepoint on Feb. 6, 2021, charging documents state. She was eventually taken to a studio apartment in West Valley City at 1136 W. Elba Ave., and was shot in the head, according to charging documents.

In a plea deal, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty, changing an aggravated murder charge to murder. Prosecutors also dropped an obstructing justice charge.

Tobar pleaded guilty to murder and aggravated kidnapping, both first-degree felonies. His sentencing is scheduled for July 22.

Five other people charged in the case await trial.
