SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Spencer Cox's office announced that first lady Abby Cox underwent surgery Wednesday morning. She is currently in recovery.

Jon Pierpont, the chief of staff for Cox, said, "The first lady looks forward to a speedy recovery."

Abby Cox's surgery was to remove degenerative discs in her neck, a press release said.

"The first family is grateful to the surgeons, doctors and staff at the University of Utah for their attention and care, and appreciates the prayers and support from so many Utahns," said Pierpont.
