BRIGHAM CITY — Police have named the woman who was found unresponsive in Box Elder Creek on Tuesday and later died, and they're now asking the public for help in their investigation.

Fanny Escalona-De Angola, 61, of Brigham City, was identified in a news release from the Brigham City Police Department on Wednesday evening.

Police say they received the report of a possible missing person just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday; a man called saying he couldn't find his wife.

Officers responded to the residence, confirmed Escalona-De Angola was missing and started searching the area. Detective Crystal Beck said officers found the woman unresponsive in the Box Elder Creek and transported her to the hospital.

Escalona-De Angola was pronounced dead Tuesday at the hospital about 1:20 p.m., Beck said.

The investigation is ongoing to determine how she ended up in the creek. Anyone with information on Escalona-De Angola or who may have seen her between 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. Tuesday is encouraged to contact police.
