WEST JORDAN — A documented gang member has been arrested in connection with a 2022 triple homicide during a house party in West Jordan.
On July 23, 2022, Fayzan Ali and Ayash Mohamed, both 18, and Mohamed Mohamed, 20, all from Millcreek, were shot and killed while standing outside a residence at 3355 W. 6920 South. Either a car, or multiple cars, drove by and shots were fired, according to police.
Steven Donovan Carmona — who was five days away from turning 17 when the shootings occurred — was charged in 2023 with three counts of aggravated murder, a first-degree felony; discharging a firearm causing injury, a second-degree felony; and seven counts of discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony. Carmona, now 18, is scheduled to be be back in court on March 19 for a pre-trial conference.
Three others, ages 15, 15, and 16, are listed as co-defendants, with only their initials listed in court documents. Those boys are charged in juvenile court with the same crimes.
Police say the four boys actively sought out their victims and targeted them for being rival gang members.
Quincy Jason Lewis Holt, 20, was charged in 3rd District Court in 2022 with obstructing justice, a second-degree felony. He pleaded guilty just two months later and was sentenced to three years of probation.
On Thursday, another arrest was made in connection with the triple killings.
Estuardo Castaneda, 20 was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of obstruction of justice. Castaneda is a documented gang member, according to police.
"Digital evidence shows (Castaneda) is in a position in the gang in charge of moving firearms throughout the gang. Detectives have recovered digital evidence showing (Castaneda) possessed a firearm that has been forensically linked to the triple homicide after the homicide had occurred. Digital evidence also shows (Castaneda) circulated that firearm to another juvenile gang member who was connected to the homicide and later arrested with the firearm," a police booking affidavit states.
Investigators say the barrel of the gun used in the shootings was altered, "likely in an attempt to conceal the fact of it being used in a triple homicide," according to the affidavit.
