SEATTLE — Alissa Pili was a perfect 8-of-8 from the floor midway through the third quarter, and the Utah women's basketball team was well on its way to pulling away from Washington.
Utah controlled a 16-point lead — the largest of the game — and the down feelings from a blowout loss to Oregon State in the team's last game was a distant memory.
Washington, though, went on a 7-0 run amid a three-minute stretch in which Utah turned over the ball four times to cut the lead to 5 late in the quarter, before Utah pulled away in the fourth quarter to come away with a 83-65 win on the road at Alaska Airlines Arena.
Pili finished with a game-high 31 points on 12-of-16 shooting, including a perfect 2-of-2 from 3-point range and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line, and five rebounds and three assists in the win. Pili was a major contributor to Utah (16-6, 6-4 Pac-12) outscoring Washington 48-28 in the post.
Utah's performance in the post was largely helped by Washington's Dalayah Daniels in foul trouble all night. The starting forward only played six minutes in the first half as Utah set the tone with a 24-point performance in the post in the opening half in her absence.
Daniels picked up a fourth foul with six minutes left in the game, sending her to the bench again as Utah pulled away. She finished with 7 points on 2-of-10 shooting in a frustrated effort for the Washington starter, and added eight rebounds.
Washington's Hannah Stines kept the Huskies in the game and finished with 24 points, including four made 3-pointers, and three rebounds on a night when the Huskies shot 41% from the field. Sayvia Sellers and Lauren Stewartz each added 15 points apiece in the loss.
Utah made sure the night was about them, though, as the team shot a much-improved 65% from the field — the highest shooting percentage on the road this season — and 45% from 3-point range on 20 shot attempts.
Jenna Johnson took over the game early and scored 12 points in the first half en route to a 19-point performance on 9-of-11 shooting as one of two other Utah players in double digits. Maty Wilke, who got her first start Friday night, finished with 10 points and six assists in the win.
Washington played a slower-paced game, saving shots for late in the shot clock in an effort to keep Utah from scoring in bunches.
It didn't work.
Utah's 83 points was the most scored against the Huskies all season.
