SALT LAKE CITY — A bicyclist was struck and killed by a FrontRunner train Monday evening.

Utah Transit Authority said the crash happened at 666 W. 900 South about 6:30 p.m. when two bikers were approaching the 900 South crossing.

UTA spokesman Carl Arky said a different train passed through the intersection seconds before and the gates were starting to rise.

Arky said one of the bikers saw a northbound FrontRunner train approaching and stopped. He said investigators believe the other bicyclist saw the train but decided to try to beat it and didn't get across in time.

Collin Teng, 24, was hit and killed by the train.

Arky said it is important for people to be aware of all warning signs at train crossings including lights, bells and gates and to always look both ways because sometimes there are multiple trains crossing.

No train passengers were injured.

A bus bridge was activated between the Salt Lake Central and Murray Central FrontRunner stations.
