SALT LAKE CITY — Two Utah teams were idle this week, but that didn't stop the fun of college football.
For the first time we can remember, the team picked as the favorite in all five games lost over the weekend. It all started when Oklahoma went into Dallas and upset Texas in the annual Red River Rivalry game. Only 11% of all picks had the Sooners coming out on top in that game.
And the picks went downhill from there.
UCLA beat Washington State, which had 76% of all the picks in its favor; 91% of picks thought Notre Dame would beat Louisville; 64% of picks thoughts Colorado State would steal a road victory over Utah State (58.6% of Aggies fans at least picked their team); and 76% of all picks thought Fresno State could get in and out of Laramie with a win over Wyoming.
Yikes!
Somehow, though, three BYU fans were undeterred and finished the week 5-0 — how, we don't know. Gerald Maurer finished with 215 points, followed by Cera Petersen (197 points) and Parker Mansfield (196 points).
Congrats to our winners, who will get a $100, $70 and $30 Visa gift card, respectively, courtesy of Goldenwest Credit Union.
The overall winners of Pick'em this year will receive a $500 gift card for first place, a $250 gift card for second place and a $100 gift card for third place. So far, two BYU fans top the overall leaderboard, but there's a long season ahead.
