PROVO — The Utah County Major Crimes Task Force seized a cache of weapons, drugs and money Thursday during a search of a house across the street from an elementary school.

Task force members served the warrant at 2512 W. 280 South in Provo, which is across the street from Amelia Earhart Elementary School. Heroin was found in a laundry hamper in the master bedroom and more than $4,000 in cash in a backpack, according to a police booking affidavit.

In addition, nine guns — including two AR-15s and an AK-47 — were seized.

"The AK-47 had a 30-round magazine fully loaded in the gun, with three different types of rounds stacked: a full metal jacket, a hollow point, and then armor-piercing to fill the magazine. Numerous armor-piercing pistol rounds were also located loaded in magazines. One of the pistols and AR-15s located did not have serial numbers on them and are considered to be ghost guns," the affidavit states.

Alejandro Rodriguez, 42, was arrested for investigation of drug possession with intent to distribute, marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and nine counts of being a restricted person in possession of a weapon.

Before serving the warrant, Rodriguez told police they wouldn't find anything, according to the affidavit.

"Once the heroin was located, I asked Alejandro about the heroin. ... Alejandro stated, 'I wanted to make you work for it,'" the arresting officer wrote in the affidavit. "I asked Alejandro about being a restricted person and in possession of guns. He stated he knew he was restricted and liked guns and to shoot."
