SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's special Republican primary election for the 2nd Congressional District U.S. House seat got top billing Tuesday night, but dozens of city council elections and one mayoral race were narrowed down as well.

The Ogden mayoral primary remained close throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, but Taylor Knuth and Ben Nadolski ultimately advanced to the general election, with Knuth getting 168 votes more than Nadolski.

Knuth finished with 1,997 overall votes to 1,829 for Nadolski. Third-place finisher Bart Blair wasn't far behind at 1,770 votes, trailing Nadolski by just 59 votes with nearly all votes totaled.

"Ogden is the city that built me. It's the city where I became a first-generation college graduate and first-generation homeowner, the city where I built my career and started my family, and most importantly, it's the city that truly set me on a path that I was never meant to be on," Knuth said. "Growing up with a single mother who worked multiple jobs to make ends meet, I was never meant to run for office, let alone win a primary election to be Ogden's next mayor. And yet, the people of Ogden have made their choice clear."

Three-term Mayor Mike Caldwell did not seek reelection, paving the path for a close race to replace him.

The general election is Nov. 21.

The race for Salt Lake City mayor wasn't on the ballot Tuesday because the city opted for ranked-choice voting in lieu of a primary.
