SALT LAKE CITY — Police have identified a man shot and killed early Sunday as 35-year-old Anetone Simanu.

Salt Lake police responded about 4 a.m. to reports of a person being shot near 128 W. 300 South. Officers arrived at the location within minutes where they found "a large and chaotic scene," according to a statement from police. A community member was attempting life-saving efforts on the man who had been shot when police arrived.

Officers took over life-saving efforts but the man later died of his injuries at the scene.

Two people were arrested for "interfering with the investigation" but the shooter has not yet been identified, police said. Detectives are asking anyone who has information about the shooting, including photos or videos of the moments leading up to, during and after the shooting, to call 801-799-3000.

The shooting did not appear to be random and there is no known danger to the community, Salt Lake police said.
