SALT LAKE CITY — The top five in the KSL.com Top 20+1 is starting to cement itself after some early movement near the top of the rankings.
The undefeated Syracuse Titans might have a shot at crashing the party of mostly Utah County teams, however, with a statement win over Herriman and some big opportunities on the horizon.
Here's the latest KSL.com Sports Top 20+1.
1. Skyridge (3-0, 6A Region 3)
Last week's Top 20+1 broke down the perpetual battle in the top two between Skyridge and Corner Canyon. For now, it appears Skyridge wears the crown until it loses a game.
The Falcons traveled to Farmington last week and didn't skip a beat, dominating the Phoenix 55-17 to increase their scoring total for the third consecutive week.
2. Corner Canyon (2-1, 6A Region 2)
The Chargers also put up 50 points and might have done it against a tougher opponent, depending on who you ask. Lone Peak succumbed to the Isaac Wilson party, giving up five first-half touchdowns to the Utah commit and falling short of a second-half comeback.
3. American Fork (3-0, 6A Region 3)
The Cavemen enter the top three with a 45-21 win against West, further pushing the Region 3 supremacy agenda. They travel to Rigby, Idaho, this week before finishing non-region play against Bingham.
4. Lehi (3-0, 6A Region 3)
The Pioneers took the trek up to Rigby last week and moved to 3-0 with a 45-13 victory. Quarterback Jett Niu had three touchdown passes in the second quarter as part of a 38-0 run for the Pioneers.
5. Timpview (2-1, 5A Region 7)
The Thunderbirds followed up a Week 2 win over Lone Peak with a rivalry win over their crosstown foe Provo. The Timpview defense held the Bulldogs scoreless for three quarters before resisting a late comeback attempt.
Next up is a road trip to Los Alamitos in California to take on the Griffins, currently ranked in the top 50 in the nation by MaxPreps.
6. Syracuse (3-0, 6A Region 1)
Herriman was one of the early surprise stories of the season with a pair of big wins to start the season, but the Titans dropped 21 first-half points and staved off a late rally to grab some extra attention this week in a 21-10 win.
The true test for Syracuse will come on Sept. 8 when it welcomes Corner Canyon to Davis County.
7. Pleasant Grove (3-0, 6A Region 3)
The Vikings are another team knocking on the door thanks to an early-season surge. Carson Rasmussen threw for four touchdowns and ran in two more in a 41-21 drubbing of Granger last week, and will look to carry the momentum into the Region 3 gauntlet starting in mid-September against Lone Peak.
8. Lone Peak (1-2, 6A Region 3)
The Knights are the only team in the top 10 with a losing record, but they've also played the toughest schedule by far.
A 3-point loss to Timpview was followed up by a game that was probably closer than the scoreboard showed against Corner Canyon. The Knights outscored the Chargers 29-14 in the second half after going down 37-7 at halftime.
9. Alta (3-0, 5A Region 6)
The Hawks took their feel-good 2023 campaign on the road to Nevada last week and defeated Legacy 41-6 — the second straight week it held an opponent to single digits. Senior running back Anthony Cottis ran for three touchdowns, including a 60-yard house call a minute into the game.
10. Brighton (2-1, 5A Region 6)
The Bengals flexed their muscles a bit with a 49-point explosion against Riverton last week. Quarterback Jack Johnson threw five touchdown passes, including a 70-yard strike to Case Beames.
11. West (0-2, 5A Region 6)
The Panthers are playing catch-up a bit, with one less game played than most other schools. But they have a chance to gain a lot of ground with Salt Lake County showdowns against Olympus and Alta over the next two weeks.
12. Mountain Ridge (3-0, 6A Region 2)
Sixty-two total points and 44 unanswered starting in the second quarter last time out for Mountain Ridge. Perhaps even more impressive was the fact that seven different players scored touchdowns for the Sentinels, who head to Cedar Hills undefeated ahead of a big matchup against Lone Peak.
13. Crimson Cliffs (2-1, 4A Region 9)
The Mustangs came within 4 points of defeating 6A staple Bingham in Week 2, and then took down 5A Springville in a 28-7 win last week. McCord Christiansen ran for three touchdowns and the defense shut out the Red Devils through three quarters.
14. Bingham (1-2, 6A Region 2)
Giving up 48 points is never a good thing, but scoring 14 points against the No. 1 team in the nation has to be a nice consolation prize for the Miners after dropping a game against Mater Dei from California.
The road doesn't get any easier for Bingham from here. The Miners take on the No. 1 team in the state next week on a trip to Skyridge.
15. Park City (3-0, 4A Region 10)
The Miners were held scoreless in the second half and allowed 21 fourth-quarter points against Dixie but managed to escape Week 3 undefeated. They've won their last two games by just 5 combined points.
16. Springville (2-0, 5A Region 7)
The Red Devils dropped their first game of the season against Crimson Cliffs, managing just 7 points on offense after a pair of 30-point performances to start the season.
17. Box Elder (3-0, 5A Region 5)
Dax Sumko ran for three touchdowns and caught a 58-yard score to help the Bees to a 49-28 win over Bear River and a 3-0 record on the season.
18. Orem (1-2, 5A Region 7)
The Tigers fell short in a 44-28 loss to Spanish Fork in Week 3, dropping them to 1-2 on the young season. A late field goal by the Dons sent the game to overtime and the Tigers were unable to keep up in the extra period.
19. Herriman (2-1, 6A Region 2)
The Mustangs came back down to Earth a bit on their losing trip to Syracuse. Frederick Ta'ai scored the team's lone touchdown with 53 seconds remaining, falling short of victory despite shutting out Syracuse in the second half.
20. Ridgeline (3-0, 4A Region 11)
The Riverhawks have yet to score more than 28 points in a game but find themselves at 3-0 heading into September. The Cache Valley favorites may not face another major test until the final week of the regular season against Orem.
Plus-1: Spanish Fork (1-2, 4A Region 8)
It took a 31-yard field goal as time expired and a 29-yard touchdown pass in double overtime, but the Dons got their first win of the season in spectacular fashion last week against the Orem Tigers.
Two of McKay Smith's four touchdown passes came after regulation, and kicker Zachary Manning was the fourth-quarter hero with his game-tying field goal after a mostly back-and-forth affair.
