DRAPER — Corner Canyon and Lone Peak are no longer in the same region, but that didn't stop them from combining for a lively rivalry battle Friday night.
"That part was fun," Corner Canyon head coach Eric Kjar said of playing Lone Peak in Region 3. "We'll miss playing a lot of those teams in our region."
The Chargers are now members of Region 2 but got one last chance to say farewell on their own terms with a 51-36 statement victory over the Knights.
The KSL.com Game of the Week matchup pretty much had it all: five first-half touchdowns from Isaac Wilson, a successful onside kick from Lone Peak in the third quarter, and a defensive lineman pick-six score in the fourth quarter to seal the win for Corner Canyon.

The quarter-by-quarter score breakdown pretty much tells the whole story. Lone Peak kept it close in the first quarter and trailed 13-7 before Corner Canyon ran away with a 24-0 second quarter. The Knights matched it with a 22-0 third quarter, however, complete with an onside kick recovery and an interception in the end zone returned all the way to midfield.
But Corner Canyon woke up in the fourth quarter and finished off Lone Peak with a sixth touchdown pass from Wilson, and a 21-yard pick six by defensive lineman Caden Bonham. Matthias Nawahine snuck in one more score for the Knights late in the fourth, but it was too little, too late.
"We play hard. I don't think we're lacking for that," Kjar said. "I think at times we focus really, really well, but I think we've lost it a couple times pretty fast, too. Like at halftime, I felt like we didn't come out as good as we should have."
Kjar pointed to an unsuccessful fourth-down attempt and turnover in the third quarter as moments where the Chargers lacked focus but also highlighted the "talented group" he has this year.
Tate Kjar and Boston Snow caught four of Wilson's touchdown passes, while Trey Robinson had all three touchdown grabs during the third-quarter run for Lone Peak.
Lone Peak welcomes Corner Canyon's new Region 2 foe Mountain Ridge to Utah County next week, while the Chargers travel to Farmington.
