SALT LAKE CITY — One person suffered critical injuries and another was taken to the hospital with minor injuries following a high-speed crash in Salt Lake City early Friday.
Police received multiple 911 calls just after 1 a.m. about a crash at 700 East and 600 South, according to police spokesman Brent Weisberg. He said a Mini Cooper was traveling east on 600 South "at a high rate of speed" when it collided with a KIA southbound on 700 East.
The KIA had three total occupants, including one passenger, a man, who was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition. Another male passenger was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, and the driver, a woman, also suffered minor injuries, he said.
There were two occupants in the Mini Cooper, and the driver — who suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries — was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence, Weisberg said. The passenger was also detained for interfering with the investigation, he said.
The roadway between 500 South and 700 South was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
Names of the arrested were not immediately available.
