SALT LAKE CITY — Utah House Rep. Quinn Kotter announced his resignation Wednesday, citing life circumstances and stress affecting his ability to serve.
Kotter, R-West Valley City, notified Speaker of the House Brad Wilson that his resignation from the District 26 seat will be effective Sept. 9.
"Life circumstances have affected my ability to devote my full attention and energies to this position of service, and the stress has begun to severely affect my health and work," Kotter said in his letter of resignation. "I do not feel it fair to the constituents of this district or to the state to serve in a hindered manner since prior to this I have dedicated all my capabilities to serve, and the people deserve such commitment."
Kotter said he went to the Capitol with intentions of supporting, obeying and defending the U.S. and Utah constitutions, and "worked (his) hardest to do so." He said he believes he can now best serve the country and state in other capacities outside of the Legislature.
"It has been an honor to swear an oath to uphold the Constitution, and I pray that it be defended," Kotter said. He began his legislative service on Jan. 1.
The Utah House Majority said on social media it wishes Kotter health and happiness going forward.
