PARK CITY — An Arizona man has been arrested after a 14-year-old Utah girl was found in the closet of a Park City rental property where he was staying.

Mark Vincent Devine, 32, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with kidnapping, a second-degree felony; and drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, class B misdemeanors.

On Thursday, about 10 p.m., a Davis County teen girl told her mother she was going to stay the night at a friend's house, according to charging documents. But she never showed up, and by 1:40 a.m. on Friday sent her mother an "SOS message from her phone stating she needed help. (The mother) instructed her to turn on her phone's GPS location, which she did. (The mother) sent the phone's coordinates to Summit County dispatch."

Deputies went to the Powder Wood condominiums, 6975 N. 2200 West, where they made contact with Devine who said he was renting the condo from a friend. He claimed no one else was in the condo, the charges state, even though "911 dispatchers informed the deputies that (the girl) had been texting dispatch that she could hear the deputies knocking at the door."

A search of the condo was conducted by deputies, who found the teen "in a closet obviously upset," according to the charges. The girl told her mother "that she was being held against her will and had been shoved into a closet.

"After deputies located her, she told them that Mark Devine had picked her up on the night of Aug. 10 and they went to McDonald's. (She) stated she didn't remember much after that except waking up in an apartment," the charges continue. She "also told deputies she felt like she had been drugged."

Devine was then arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail.
