WEST JORDAN — West Jordan police said two men cutting down a tree were electrocuted on Friday.

The accident occurred near 1232 Lucky Cove Drive in West Jordan about 1:40 p.m. The two men were part of a woodcutting service and were cutting a tree using a boom truck when they were electrocuted, police said.

"It's believed that machinery — a boom lift — made contact with an electrical wire, which led to a fire," detective Dirk Petersen said.

When officers and firefighters arrived, they found the truck on fire and both men dead. Crews from Rocky Mountain Power responded to the scene and after power to the area was cut, the fire was put out.

The homeowner who hired the men said he feels horrible this happened. Homeowner Evan Jensen had gotten to know the men and their families over the last few days and called them honest, dedicated workers.

"You could just tell what a sweet family they are. How beautiful of a family and how close knit they are," Jensen said.

Jensen said the workers were best friends, and they are both fathers of young children.

"Those two boys, just in the short time that I got to know them — heaven gained a couple good guys today," Jensen said.
