WOODS CROSS — A Canada-based agriculture and tech company celebrated its continuing efforts to expand into the American market Wednesday at the unveiling of a new state-of-the-art, $13 million, 61,000-square-foot facility in Woods Cross.
Premier Tech's new facility, located at 1894 W. 2425 South, is a part of the company's Systems and Automation group — a division that only has 14 facilities globally — focused on streamlining packaging automation.
"Let's say you have a salt factory and you need to create 25 kg bags," said Simon Roy, the company's president and chief operating officer. "We will have all the systems to actually fill the bags at the right quantity, and then seal the bags either in plastic or paper bags, and then we will convey the bags and then put them on pallets and wrap the pallets."
In 2022, Premier Tech totaled over $740 million in revenue.
Roy said Premier Tech has operated in Utah since 2009 in a facility just north of Salt Lake City, but they moved to Woods Cross to upgrade to a larger facility that is double the size of the previous one.
The facility includes an innovation, research and development area for the design of new products, as well as a technical floor that allows equipment to be fully tested according to the actual production parameters required by Premier Tech's customers.
"We are growing as a company, we're growing the lines of products that we manufacture and ... as we're expanding, we needed a new facility," Roy said.
Dale Tortorich, operations director of the Woods Cross plant, said the new location will allow the company to undertake more products and boost production
"It will also act as a distribution center for spare parts and equipment optimization," Tortorich added.
Additionally, the facility represents an investment in the economy of Woods Cross.
"This significant investment demonstrates the appeal and potential our city holds for businesses seeking growth and success," said Woods Cross Mayor Ryan Westergard at the unveiling of the facility. "We extend a warm welcome to Premier Tech and its team, acknowledging their confidence in our community as a strategic location for their operations."

Roy said Premier Tech has plans to expand and enlarge its operations further at the Woods Cross facility, something that he said will "undoubtedly" create local jobs.
He stressed the need for plant facility workers such as welders, machinery operators and a wide range of engineers, among others, adding that the company is already looking to work with technical and robotic schools in the area.
Last year, the first-of-its-kind Davis Catalyst Center opened in Kaysville. The center is a state-of-the-art education center that focuses on career and technical education, or CTE pathways, and enables students to work on advanced projects through partnerships with real-world businesses and organizations such as Epic Games, Adobe, Intermountain Health, Hill Air Force Base and a host of others.
"This partnership marks a pivotal step toward economic prosperity, job creation and enhanced opportunities for the residents of Woods Cross," Westergard said.
Correction: A previous version incorrectly said that Premier Tech totaled over $74 million in revenue in 2022. Premier Tech actually totaled over $740 million in revenue then.
