WEST JORDAN — One man is dead and a police officer is injured after a shooting overnight in West Jordan.
West Jordan police Lt. Richard Bell said someone called around 1 a.m., thinking an individual was breaking into cars at 3248 Jordan Line Parkway. Officers arrived and made contact with the person they believed was involved in the alleged break-ins.
Bell said at some point during that contact, the officers and the suspect exchanged gunfire. One officer was hit and taken to a local hospital, where he is expected to recover.
The suspect was also hit and was declared dead at the scene, after officers tried to administer medical aid, Bell said. The identity of the suspect has not been released.
The West Valley Critical Incident Team is investigating the incident. Police said they are looking for a green compact Honda vehicle that fled the scene. It may contain someone they believe was involved.
