HURRICANE, Washington County — A 4-year-old boy was critically injured Thursday after being hit by a car in Washington County, police said.

The boy was riding a bicycle in the roadway at 180 North between 3700 West and 3900 West in Hurricane about 7:20 p.m. when a 2018 Kia Soul that was driving west struck the boy, Hurricane police said in a prepared statement. Police said the setting sun obscured the vision of the man who was driving the Kia.

The boy was taken to St. George Regional Hospital in critical condition, police said.

"The driver of the vehicle has been fully cooperative during the investigation and was in fact the initial 911 caller," police said.

The Washington County Accident Reconstruction team was called to help with the crash investigation.

"We want to thank the Hurricane Valley Fire District for their quick response and assistance as well as the Washington County Accident Reconstruction team for their help and expertise," according to the statement.

"We are sending our prayers to the victim and his family at this time," police added.

Family members established a GoFundMe campaign* for medical expenses and identified the boy as Crue Cash.

He was taken by medical helicopter to an Intermountain Primary Children's location in Las Vegas "where he remains in stable but critical condition. He has a long road to recovery ahead and the expenses are sure to be immense," family members wrote.
