MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE, Weber County — At least one person is dead after a wrong-way crash between two vehicles early Sunday.
Just before 3 a.m., Weber police dispatchers received a call regarding a wrong-way driver traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-15 near Riverdale. When the vehicle neared 400 North at Marriott-Slaterville, the wrong-way driver collided head-on with a fully loaded semitruck, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
The two vehicles burst into flames following the collision. The driver and passenger of the semitruck were able to escape the cab of the vehicle. The vehicles became fully engulfed in flames and fire personnel worked for a couple hours to put out the flames.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was killed but it was unknown Sunday morning how many occupants were in the vehicle besides the driver, according to Utah Highway Patrol.
The driver and passenger of the semitruck were transported to the hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
The freeway was closed for a time in both directions from 2700 North in Pleasant View to 400 North in Marriott-Slaterville but has since reopened.
